Current Beauty Favourites – June 2018

After my first semester of summer courses, I am finally back with a new favourites post! I have been trying a ton of skincare and a bit of makeup over the warmer months and I am super excited to share what I have been loving recently!

Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream

Drunk Elephant is my favourite skincare brand currently – almost my whole night time routine is all Drunk Elephant! I love the simplicity of the brand, the straightforward ingredients and the cute packaging. I have been using Protini every night mixed with a bit of their Virgin Marula luxury facial oil and have been loving it. It is a protein-laden cream that helps with elasticity, dryness and dullness. Drunk Elephant describes Protini’s effects like adding a protein shot to your smoothie for extra nutrients, to make your skin strong and healthy. I really enjoy the lightweight texture of the cream because I never feel too greasy before going to bed, but I also like that I can play around with adding drops of marula oil to make it richer if I have feeling dehydrated! My skin looks plump and healthy after using this!

Another Drunk Elephant product I have been using every night is their new C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream. This eye cream has eight peptides (links of amino acids), five forms of vitamin C, and cucumber extract, and the texture is a thick cream great for hydration. A little goes a long way and the formula is very gentle around the eyes. I have used other eye creams that sting if you accidentally get it in your eye because the ingredients are too strong. I never have to worry about that with this cream!

Laneige Essential Balancing Emulsion for Normal to Dry Skin

I am a big fan of essences and emulsions. It’s like adding a hydration shot to your skincare routine, and I’m always looking for more ways to hydrate my dry skin. An emulsion is a thin cream, whereas essences are usually a water like texture. I love this Laneige one, because not only is it super hydrating and a great base for serums and moisturizers, but it also smells amazing. If you have never tried Laneige before, I highly recommend checking them out. They are a Korean beauty brand, and without their innovation in skincare we would never have emulsions, sheet masks, and many more skincare staples. Plus, they are really affordable for high quality ingredients! I’m really into packaging and marketing, and all of their bottles look sharp, clean and expensive. You can find Laneige at Sephora.

Caudalie Grape Water

I have fallen in love with grape water. It’s so hydrating and refreshing on the skin! I love to use it before I apply my makeup, using it as a setting spray, or just a refresher throughout the day! It makes my makeup look dewy and natural. It is 100% organic and made with the finest Bordeaux grapes.

First Aid Beauty Triple Protection Skin Tint with Goji Berry

This has been my favourite foundation-like product for the summer. Its more than a tinted moisturizer and less than a foundation in coverage, and sits really naturally on the skin. It has SPF 25 and goji berry (loaded in antioxidants) to protect the skin from UV rays and pollutants. I like to wear this on days when I just want to throw something on for coverage without any other makeup and go! I apply this with a dense brush to get maximum coverage from a low coverage product.

Fenty Beauty Killawat Foil Freestyle Highlighter in Mimosa Sunrise/Sangria Sunset

Fenty Beauty recently released new highlighters and while they are so fun for summer, I definitely thought ‘where on earth would I wear this?’ But although you may think they are way too colourful to wear routinely, they are actually very easy to wear! I have the pink and orange trio, and I love to throw the pink on my cheeks as a blush topper, or use the orange as eyeshadow in a nice warm golden bronze look. They are sheer but easy to build upon and are truly beautiful any where on the face. You can also get these highlighters in a pink and blue or teal and taupe shade. I highly recommend them if you are looking for fun ways to spice up your summer look!

The 7 Virtues Rose Amber Eau de Parfum

If you live in Halifax and haven’t heard of The 7 Virtues yet, I’m about to introduce you to your new favourite local brand. Founded in Halifax, The 7 Virtues is a fragrance company that started working with Afghan farmers to source local orange and rose blossoms in attempt to reduce the illegal poppy crop. Barb, the founder, has extended her work to Haiti, Rwanda, The Middle East, India, and Madagascar. My favourite scent is the rose amber, because it is where their fragrance story began. It smells absolutely stunning; a sweet rose that isn’t too overpowering but lasts on the skin. Their fragrances are made with cane sugar alcohol rather than regular alcohol like in most fragrances, which makes it much gentler on the skin. Each scent is hypoallergenic, so if you are looking to buy a gift for someone allergic to most scents, this is the brand for you!
