My Updated Skincare Routine – 2018

Hi everyone! Since it has been a while since I have done a skincare routine, I thought I would do an updated post. So many things have changed since my last one, and I have found some true holy grail products. My skin is very dry and dehydrated, so keep in mind that the products listed here may not suit your skin type if you are oily or combination. I love to pack on the hydration day and night. I want my skin to look as dewy and radiant as possible.

Quick disclaimer – please keep in mind that I am currently hired at Sephora, and am able to try and experiment with lots of products as I am a skincare consultant. If these products don’t suit your lifestyle, please do some further research before purchasing, and you can always visit any Sephora or Body Shop for a skin care consultation.

Okay! Now that all of that has been said, let’s jump into it. (Also, please ignore the thumbnail to my video… apparently you can only customize thumbnails if you are a verified user. Blah)

Rise and Shine!

WINTER Wash: Caudalie Gentle Cleansing Milk

The Caudalie Gentle Cleansing Milk is the newest addition to my skincare routine, and it has been a blessing! In the last few months, my skin was having a hard time with the cold winter weather. I was experiencing texture covering my whole face, dehydration, dryness and redness. My skin was itchy and makeup did not sit well on top of it. While it is still a bit dehydrated, my skin has come a long way, because of this wash! This creamy wash is formulated for dryness, dullness and texture (hello, that’s me). It leaves the skin soft and clean, without feeling dry or stripped. It contains sweet almond oil, grape seed oils and shea butter, which give my skin a hydrated glow all day long!

SUMMER Wash: The Body Shop Vitamin C Daily Glow Exfoliating Cleansing Face Polish

This cleanser has been my ride or die for a few years now. It is a scrub cleanser that is gentle enough for everyday use, and absolutely perfect for dull skin. It is loaded in vitamin C – The Body Shop uses Camu Camu berries which has one of the highest contents of Vitamin C in nature. Vitamin C is known to brighten, tighten and lighten the skin, so it is helpful for clearing scars, and encouraging collagen production. It also contains Community Fair Trade aloe vera, which is super hydrating and calming on the skin. I love this stuff, and it is surprisingly affordable for all of the premium ingredients inside!

Toner: Amore Pacific Time Response Skin Renewal Toner

I really like this toner because it is nourishing, hydrating and stays on the skin (versus wiping the skin with a toner pad to remove excess dirt). This toner helps to replenish the skin with important minerals, while protecting the skin from environmental factors and signs of aging. It also protects the skin from any chemicals or irritants that may be in your tap water which I think is so cool!

Serum: Drunk Elephant C Firma Day Serum

More vitamin C. Vitamin C is probably my favourite skincare ingredient because I love how glowy it makes my skin, so I use a lot of it! Besides vitamin C, Drunk Elephant’s C Firma also has vitamin E which protects from environmental stressors, and pumpkin and pomegranate enzymes which help to dissolve dead skin cells and leave the skin soft and smooth. I’m a big fan of Drunk Elephant; their ingredients are premium, everything is cruelty free and their social media is on point! They post a lot of elephant facts!!

Moisturizer: It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream Transforming Moisturizing Super Cream

For the winter, I have been using It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream to keep my skin hydrated and smooth. This cream is very thick in texture, so it is perfect for my dry skin (which gets extra dry in the winter). This cream is known for its ability to diminish the look of pores, discoloration and aging, while keeping the skin plump with hyaluronic acid and peptides. I have noticed my dark spots from scars lighten, and I think this cream is behind it. It would probably be too heavy for me in the summer time, but I love it in the winter time.

Oil: Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops Makeup Priming and Highlighting Oil

On extra dry days, I like to add a few drops of this oil into my cream to get it an extra kick of hydration and glow. This is 100% pure argan oil mixed with priming pearls to give the skin a dewy, fresh look. Its loaded with antioxidants and essential oils to revitalize the skin and calm redness. I have read that you can use this as a highlighter on its own, but I personally don’t think I would because it isn’t glowy enough for me.

Eye Cream: Drunk Elephant B Hydra Gel

This isn’t technically an eye cream, but I personally don’t see any problems using it under and around my eyes because of the light weight texture. Usually, you should stay away from face creams under the eyes because they can be thick and cause milia bumps under the skin, which are super annoying to get rid of. Plus, a lot of eye creams are highly concentrated to target the eyes. However, I love using this gel under my eyes and I haven’t seen any weird side effects. Drunk Elephant markets this gel as being very multi-use. B Hydra is loaded in vitamin B5 and pineapple ceramide to hydrate and brighten the skin. Love it!

Sunscreen: Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50 Broad Spectrum Sunscreen

For my last step in my morning skincare routine, I go in with my Dermalogica sunscreen. It is so important to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays! Not only does sunscreen protect against burns, it also protects our skin from premature aging and skin cancer. We should be wearing sunscreen everyday, regardless of if it is sunny or not. Harmful rays are always there! This sunscreen is broad spectrum, which means it protects from both UVA (the aging rays) and UVB (the burning rays). This is a chemical sunscreen, which means you have to wait 20 minutes for it to absorb into your skin before stepping outside.

Sweet Dreams.

Sephora Collection Triple Action Micellar Water

This Sephora Collection micellar water removes makeup so well! I use this almost everyday to remove my makeup because it gets it all off, but is still very gentle on the skin. It doesn’t sting my eyes (although I do avoid getting it in my eyes) and doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped. I usually exercise after work, so I normally go to the gym with makeup on (frankly, out of laziness). I know, I know. It’s bad for your skin to go to the gym with makeup on. My co-workers would shame me. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I am usually running out the door and can’t be bothered! There are worse things I could do, right? I like using this because I can take off my makeup after the gym but it doesn’t leave me feeling like I automatically have to wash my face. I usually putter around with this on making dinner before I shower.

SUMMER Wash: Peter Thomas Roth Moor Mud Cleanser

I absolutely love Peter Thomas Roth’s cleansers. They are all so good! They last forever, foam like a dream and contain amazing ingredients. In the warmer months, I use his Moor Mud Cleanser, which is very purifying of the skin. I usually like to use a charcoal cleanser at night to deep cleanse my pores, but I went through the Biore one I used previously way too fast. The Moor Mud cleanser doesn’t have charcoal in it, but moor mud is also very purifying and I think this one works similarly. Although it is deep cleaning, it doesn’t leave my skin feeling too tight, and always follow up with a hydrating serum and cream.

Toner: Amore Pacific Time Release Toner ~ Morning and Night!

Oil: Pure Organic Rosehip Oil

I’ve tried quite a few oils and night serums during my time at The Body Shop and Sephora, but for me, nothing compares to organic rosehip oil. It’s ultra hydrating and nourishing on the skin, so its great for me in the winter. In the summer, I usually mix it in a cream so it isn’t so heavy. Rosehip oil is full of rich vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids, which hydrates the skin and reduces fine lines and scars. I also like that I am using something 100% natural in my routine, with no mysterious added ingredients. I got this one from Amazon!

Sleeping Cream: The Body Shop Oils of Life Sleeping Cream

This night cream is forever my holy grail. I love no other skin care product like I love this guy. I have been using this cream repeatedly for 2 years now, and I swear that this is what makes my skin glowy, even and (most of the time) breakout free. This hydrating gel cream contains three cold pressed seed oil, including black cumin oil, rosehip oil and camellia oil which are known for antioxidants, omegas and rich nutritive acids. It also has seven essential oils inside, including lavender, rosemary, geranium, roman camomile, marjoram leaf, orange peel and lavandin oils, which each do their share in repairing and revitalizing the skin while you sleep. I have dry skin and the gel cream texture provides the right amount of moisture and leaves me feeling refreshed. Plus, it smells blissfully rich with essential oils which I love.

Lip Balm: Fresh Lip Caramel Hydrating Balm

I’m a big fan of Fresh, mainly because of their ingredients they chose to use in their products. Everything is very natural but each ingredient is used to their fullest potential. I really love this lip balm because it is soft, like caramel, but not sticky. Apricot, black currant and grape seed oil helps to protect the lips from dryness and leaves them supple and smooth. The only negative I have about this is that it doesn’t last on my lips all night, which I prefer.

For Silky Skin…

Zensa Healing Cream by Alera Skin Care – *Ad*

I love to use this Zensa Healing Cream in the winter months. My skin gets much more sensitive and dry in cold weather, and this cream is clinically proven to reduce itching and hydrate the skin. It is very lightweight so it won’t clog pores, and can also be used on tattoos to keep them fresh! I usually apply this cream on my shoulders and tattoos (which are on the middle of my back and foot). The ingredients are all natural, which I really love. I do my best to use all natural products, simply because I prefer to avoid excess chemicals if I can. The scent is subtle grapefruit, which is light and refreshing. Alera Skin Care is a brand based out of Vancouver, and everything is Health Canada and FDA certified!

You can find Zensa Healing Cream at Shoppers Drugmart, in the First Aid aisle

Or, online – here.

I hope you guys found this helpful. Finding a skincare routine can be tedious, but stick to it and you’ll find something that works for you. Skincare is so important and benefits us in so many ways. Leave me a comment below letting me know what you use!
