I know it isn’t quite autumn yet, but as soon as that first leaf falls from the tree, I am all in with the comfy clothes, dark lips and spicy candles. Autumn means harvest, cozy smells like baking apple pies, trips to Mahone Bay and delicious Thanksgiving food. It’s definitely my favourite time of year. Here are my essential products that I use religiously throughout the autumn months. When I use these products, I feel even more cozy, festive and happy. What products make you feel like jumping in the leaves?
Eye Palette ~ Tartelette Palette by Tarte
As soon as they weather gets just the slightest bit colder, mattes sneak their way back into my makeup routine. There is something about a matte face with matte eyeshadow and a dark lip that scream cold weather to me.
I love to use the Tarte Tartelette palette to create the perfect matte smokey eye. It’s so versatile; you can create a soft pink or beige look for daytime or a dark smokey purple look for night. I use the dark purples and blacks as eyeliner all the time and the cream shade is perfect for setting concealer. The pigmentation is incredible and all the shades are very blendable. Having an all-matte palette in my collection really allows me to branch out in all my makeup looks so I love having it around.
Lipstick ~ Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lip in Chutney
While this is a recent addition to my collection, I have been loving the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lips. They are creamy and hydrating, while lasting all day on my lips. Chutney has that perfect grungy 90s look and screams autumn to me (I mean – the name says enough). I live for red-browns and purples in the fall and wear them almost every day. This one is no exception!
Foundation ~ Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation
Okay…I have to admit that I had really low expectations for Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. When I heard that the brand was coming to Sephora, I didn’t pay much attention because I waved it off as ‘just another celebrity makeup line’. When it finally got to stores, I was blown away. The quality of each product is great! I found out that Fenty Beauty is owned by the same company that owns Kat Von D and Marc Jacobs Beauty, and the quality is really comparable. I own the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation and the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby and I have worn both almost every day since adding them to my collection. I can already tell the foundation is going to be a fall favourite because it’s matte and longwearing. I tend to wear more foundation in the colder months and I like that this one is natural looking but gives me the coverage I desire in the winter. It softens the appearance of pores and doesn’t crease in my smile lines if I set it with powder. Definitely check this one out!
Contour ~ Kat Von D Shade and Light Palette
If you couldn’t tell by what I’ve already mentioned, I wear a lot more makeup in the winter. I also tend to contour a lot more, and the Kat Von D Shade and Light palette is my go-to. The contour shade is light, easy to build up and quick to blend. I always go over top with the bronze shade to give my skin some more warmth. Medium to full coverage foundations can tend to white me out so I am always looking to add colour and structure back into my skin.
Clothes ~ Big scarves, ripped jeans and white Converse All Stars
I have three staple pieces I always wear during the autumn months.
First, ripped jeans are an essential! I love how grungy they look and add some extra detail to any outfit. I’m not a huge fan of super distressed jeans (like up the entire pant leg) and I tend to lean more towards a medium distressed pattern – not too ripped but more than just the knee.
I live in my white Converse All Stars in the fall. I think they look so cool with distressed jeans or black leggings, and I like how you can dress them up or down. I even wear these a lot to go downtown – not necessarily dress code but they are comfy and look cool!
Big, thick scarves are probably my favourite thing about fall and winter. I wear a scarf almost every day and have multiple to change up my outfit. They are so cute and comfy and add a pop of colour to any outfit. Half the time I use them as a blanket in class… bonus!
Perfume ~ Elizabeth and James Nirvana White & The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine
I alternate between two scents during autumn: Elizabeth and James Nirvana White and The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine. Both are deep florals, but Nirvana White is very strong while Indian Night Jasmine is more daytime appropriate (ironic as the name is Indian Night). Nirvana White’s notes include: peony, muguet and tender musk, and is described as pure, floral and feminine. I think the musk makes it deep and more fall appropriate. Indian Night Jasmine’s notes include: sandalwood, violet leaves, orange blossom and of course, jasmine. This one doesn’t last as long as Nirvana White, but is a quarter of the price and smells lovely! I recommended stopping to smell them if you haven’t already.
Candle ~ Bath & Body Works Leaves and Spiced Cinnamon Pumpkin
I think this is a favourite for every 20 something girl in autumn. You know as soon as Bath and Body Works drops those delicious candles, it’s like a stampede of girls coming from every direction, and I happily take part in this. There is no other candle brand that nail fall scents like Bath and Body Works does. The heavenly scents fill my whole apartment and gives it that ‘hygge’ vibe. A few of my favourites are Leaves and Spiced Cinnamon Pumpkin.
Tea ~ Organic Ginger Tea
I love to drink tea in general in the colder months, but lately I have been loving this organic ginger tea. I love to sit on my couch with tea and a blanket to watch Netflix or read a book. Plus, ginger is great for the digestion, so I wanted to try it as I have a lot of digestive issues. So far, I find it calms down my stomach and tastes really good but I need to drink it more to see better results.
