A few weeks back, YouTube beauty goddess Jaclyn Hill created the ‘Ride or Die’ tag and immediately I knew I wanted to participate. Essentially, the tag’s purpose is to list one product from each category that you can’t live without. As Jaclyn said, “If you could only take one from each category to a desert island, which would you choose?”
PRIMER: Clinique Superprimer Universal Face Primer
I had to choose this one because this is the best one I have in my collection. I like it more than Benefit’s Porefessional, Make Up For Ever’s Step One Skin Equalizer or Maybelline’s Baby Skin. Although it doesn’t fill pores, it really grabs the foundation and helps it to last longer. Another bonus is that although it is on the pricier side, it is cheaper than Benefit’s and Make Up For Ever’s.
FOUNDATION: Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation
I have never repurchased a foundation more than this one, which is why it has to be my ride or die. Although I prefer a lighter coverage these days, I still find myself going back to this one, which has a fuller coverage. Can you tell by how dirty it is? (I probably should have cleaned it beforehand…) It definitely looks like you are wearing foundation on the skin, but it applies smoothly and covers everything!
CONCEALER: MAC Pro Longwear Concealer
MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer is my favourite for two reasons: it lasts forever, and the coverage is perfect for me. I go through other concealers with doe foot applicators in a month max, but this one lasts me at least 5 months. The coverage is medium to full coverage but I usually apply it with a damp beauty blender which sheers it out a bit. I love this for under the eyes and any blemishes I may have. I have yet to find anything better!
FACE POWDER: Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder
I actually don’t have a favourite powder (still on the hunt), but I have repurchased this Rimmel powder so many times I have lost count. It does the job and never looks cakey on top of foundation, so it has to be my ride or die (for now).
BLUSH: Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso and Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Blushing Bride
With blushes, I cheated a little. I had to pick two!! I wear these blushes equally so I couldn’t just choose one. With a warmer toned look, I always reach for Luminoso, and with cooler toned looks Blushing Bride is my go-to. I also seem to gravitate to Luminoso more in the summer and Blushing Bride in the winter. I love the long wear formulas of both as well! I definitely couldn’t just pick one.
BRONZER: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
I had a hard time choosing between the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil bronzer and the Essence Sun Club bronzer, but I decided to go with the Too Faced bronzer. It never fails me regardless of if I’m tanned or not! I also just purchased the NikkieTutorials Power of Makeup Collection by Too Faced which came with a Chocolate Soleil bronzer (not milk chocolate) and I didn’t mind owning two colours of the same bronzer at all. This bronzer formula always applies smoothly and did I mention it smells like chocolate?
HIGHLIGHT: BECCA Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector
…Do I even need to explain? Probably not! I have gushed about this baby in about every post on this blog.
LIPSTICK: L’oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Nude
This is my go-to lipstick if I’m not sure what exactly I want to wear that day. It’s the perfect mix of brown and pink that gives you that ‘your lips but better’ kind of look. It looks awesome with a smokey eye but also works with a minimal makeup day. And it’s also cheap! Can’t get better than that.
GLOSS: NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brûlée
I love to wear this gloss over top of my L’oreal lipstick in Nude. It adds the tiniest hint of pink and looks so glossy. I also grab this if I need a fresh, pink gloss to go with an easy day time look. These glosses are pigmented, don’t streak and smell delicious. Glosses are my personal favourite lip product so I have many loves, but this one is the most versatile by far.
EYESHADOW PALETTE: MAC Z-Palette and Wet N’ Wild Trio in Walking on Eggshells
My all time favourite go-to eyeshadow trio is the Wet N’ Wild trio in Walking on Eggshells, which I have mentioned in other posts. So pigmented! So affordable! Seriously, you need this in your life. But I figured a trio didn’t really count as an eyeshadow palette, so my other ride or die would have to be my custom made Z-Palette. 99% of it are MAC eyeshadows and the little guy in the corner is a Urban Decay eyeshadow in Fireball. I love this palette because I use every single colour in it. In other palettes, there is always one or two shadows I rarely gravitate to. It’s awesome to be able to create your dream eyeshadow palette so easily.
I left a few categories out because I didn’t have a ride or die for that category. Either I am still on the hunt for that perfect product or I don’t really use that product (ex, lashes, setting spray). I included them down below so everyone can see the other parts of the tag!
This was an awesome first tag to do. If you haven’t watched Jaclyn’s video, you should!
