Brand Review: Skinfood New Zealand

Today I am doing my first brand review! I will be reviewing 3 products from the skincare brand Skinfood New Zealand, which uses sustainably sourced  naturally based ingredients.

The website claims the products are free of parabens, GMOs, sulphates, artificial colours, toxic minerals, harsh detergents and the list goes on. They also don’t test on animals and use recycled materials for their packaging. I picked up the Skinfood gift set at Winners after hearing about the brand online. I was so excited to try the brand (I got 3 full size products for $20) because of all the awesome claims the brand makes about their products.

Right off the bat, I was really impressed with the packaging. It looked very clean and fresh and did a good job of representing the natural identity the brand has. I also thought it looked a lot more expensive than it actually was, which shows that a lot of effort went into it.

The products inside looked just as nice as the packaging. I think the green and white looks very pure. The products were good sized as well! After I bought it I realized I didn’t check to see what size the products were and was pleasantly to see that they were all full sized, making it a great value for money!

Almost immediately after getting home, I tried the face wipes. Personally, I find good face wipes hard to find. I thought the Cetaphil ones were perfect, but they ended up drying out too quickly. Because of my skepticism in face wipes, I was hesitant about these. However, I was pleasantly surprised! They are made with aloe vera and chamomile, which are both very calming on the skin. They smell clean and fresh, but not perfumey, which is a huge pro in my books. I find that when face wipes are strongly scented they are a lot more likely to give my skin a reaction. The wipes were also perfectly moist. They were wet enough to get all of my makeup off but not so much that they left residue. On the first day using them, I only had a little bit of concealer and mascara on so I decided to give them another go when wearing much more makeup before doing my review. They took all of my makeup off both times, so I was very impressed!

I think I was most excited to try the scrub. I love scrubs, whether they be for the face or for the body. A few of my favourites are the Aloe Gentle Exfoliator from The Body Shop and the St.Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub, but I think this one is definitely up there with the others! It contains manuka honey, aloe vera and cucumber extract, which are all calming properties and the almond and walnut shell are great natural alternatives to use for the scrub. The lime gave it a great smell. I thought that the exfoliator working really well; it wasn’t too harsh on my skin and left it soft and smooth. It also took off all remaining makeup off because it had a creamy cleansing base. I felt good about using this product because I felt like I was doing something good for my skin by using these natural ingredients to refresh it.

I have been on the hunt for a good mud mask ever since the Glam Glow masks came out. I have been dying to try the Supermud but can’t justify spending $80 on 34g of mask (ridiculous if you ask me). I really like The Body Shop’s Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask but it is too strong to use on my whole face. Skinfood’s mask has aloe and jojoba oil in it which screamed sensitive skin to me. I applied it to my whole face and was really happy to find that it didn’t dry out my skin! It was more intense on a blemish I had, drying that one spot up slightly, showing that it would be a good spot treatment as well. The next day, I did not have any new breakouts either. I have used clay masks in the past which have caused me to break out so I was happy to have avoided that with this one. I can’t wait to keep trying it out to see if it really purifies any spots I have in the future. I am a big fan of this mask so far!

In my opinion, Skinfood New Zealand lives up to all of the claims they make on their website. Each product was great on my skin and I think with continued use the ingredients could really benefit my skin. The products were a great value for money and I can’t wait to try more products from them! I am really happy with this purchase and am excited to incorporate their products into my daily skincare routine!

Love,

Taylor xo
