My Step-by-Step At Home Pamper Routine

I don’t know about you, but having a nice long pampering evening is one of my favourite things on the planet. I live for hot baths and when I lived in residence I could only take them when I went home on weekends. So, now that I have my own apartment, pampering evenings probably happen a little too often… (when I should be studying). This post is for anyone who loves to indulge in some quality time with themselves and a few luxurious-smelling products and likes to give their skin a little extra love and pampering.

Step One) Before running the bath, I like to take all my makeup off and apply a face mask. Here I am using a Forever 21 love&beauty tea tree oil sheet mask. Tea tree oil is an anti-inflammatory and helps heal any blemishes, which I really like to use if I wore a lot of makeup that day. The tea tree oil feels very refreshing and tingly on my skin. Other masks I like to use are the Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask, Freeman’s Charcoal and Black Sugar Polishing Mask and any LUSH Fresh Face Mask. I leave the mask on until I am out of the bath.

Step Two) After applying the mask, I use a body scrub. I use the scrub on my dry skin because it does a better job at removing dead skin if there is a bit of friction. I use a pair of scrubby gloves to apply the scrub. In my opinion, sugar scrubs work the best compared to using a cream based scrub. Cream based scrubs tend to have smaller granules that are softer in texture than granules of sugar. The one I am using here is a Body Shop sugar scrub that has a jelly consistency. I have always used Body Shop scrubs, long before I started working there, and I think they are really good. I’ve also found good sugar scrubs at Winners in the past. You can find organic ones there as well as heavily scented ones, so there is something there for everyone! Or another alternative to use is just sugar on its own!

Step Three) After using the scrub, I hop in the bath. Here I am using a Zoella Beauty bubble bath which has a light but sweet scent and bubbles really nicely. If I was going for a night of extreme pampering, I would use a LUSH bath bomb or bubble bar. I would’ve included one of those in my photo above but the only one I had left was a half used bath melt… (in ‘Mmmelting Marshmallow Moment’ which smells like delicious bubble gum and marshmallows). A few of my all-time favourites are ‘Avobath’ bath bomb, ‘Butterball’ bath bomb, ‘Fizzbanger’ bath bomb and ‘The Comforter’ bubble bar. When I am in the bath, I watch Netflix (right now I am watching Bones and I’m obsessed!!) on my tablet to clear my mind of anything that might be weighing me down.

Step Four) In my winter, my skin gets extremely dry, very fast. After I get out of the bath, I want to get the most moisture I can on my legs and arms. I really like using LUSH massage bars because they are loaded in oils to really moisturize the skin. I am currently using LUSH’s ‘Strawberry Feels Forever’ massage bar which is made with strawberries, hibiscus flower and coconut oil. Coconut oil is extremely moisturizing for the skin, as is shea butter and mango butter. I don’t mind going to sleep with my skin feeling a little greasy, but if you don’t like that feeling you could always use a lighter lotion. Bath and Body Works and St. Ives have some great ones.

Step Five) On to my face! I like to have an extremely moisturized face as well as body in the winter. I use extra thick moisturizers at night to really let it sink in while I sleep. But before I apply a moisturizer, I wash my face, apply toner and then I move on to oil. I am currently using the Body Shop’s Oils of Life facial oil because it is very moisturizing and loaded with antioxidants. I drop about 4 drops into my palm and apply it to my whole face. Sephora also offers a lot of facial oils (Josie Maran, Boscia, Fresh, Ole Henriksen… the list goes on) and I also know people who use essential oils such as Rose Hip oil which is very moisturizing.

Step Six) Finally, the last step to my pamper routine is to moisturize my face. I am currently using Clinique’s Turnaround Overnight Revitalizing Moisturizer but I don’t have a favourite. I prefer anything that is very thick in consistency because my skin is so dry. Of course, adjust to your skin type and preferences. Next I apply an eye cream and I’m done!
