I am a super-fan of face masks. I have tried so many different kinds, both store bought and DIY, and over time I have accumulated quite a few favourites. However, I find that DIY masks are either amazing or a total dud. So I wanted to share the recipe for my all time favourite DIY face mask and hopefully if you try it out, it works as well for you as it does for me!
To start, you need 4 simple ingredients.
1/2 tsp honey
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp cinnamon
If you like, you can double the recipe if you find that it doesn’t make enough. Or, you can always double the recipe and save the leftover mask in the fridge.
Let the mask sit for 15 to 30 minutes. I usually do this mask weekly or bi-weekly so I let it sit for 30 minutes. After 15-30 minutes, rinse off with warm water and pat dry with a towel.
I like to use this mask when my skin needs a good pick-me-up. I use it if my skin is breaking out, reacting to something I’ve eaten or just really needs a good cleansing.
So what is so good about this mask??
This DIY mask is loaded with great ingredients that have properties that are awesome for the face.
Honey has anti-inflammatory properties, which means it helps heal acne and calm down any redness. It is also loaded with vitamins and antioxidants (B1, B2, B6, Vitamin C, Zinc) which help to brighten and rejuvenate the skin.
Cinnamon helps to face acne scars, reduce acne swelling and brighten.
Nutmeg is an anti-inflammatory and also helps to wake up the skin. It can also help unclog pores and heal sun spots.
Lemon juice is loaded in vitamin C that helps to awaken dull and lifeless skin. Make sure you don’t go overboard with the lemon juice because it can be drying on the skin if overused.
Keep in mind that everybody has different skin and although this mask may work for me, it might not for you. I recommend testing it on your jawbone or wrist before applying to the entire face to make sure you don’t get a reaction from the ingredients.
